How BetterBite™ works
Honest feedback needs two things: a way to say it without the awkward face to face bit, and confidence it can't be traced back. Here's how we do both.
For your diners
Scan and share
Diners scan the QR card on their table and answer a few quick questions: what they had, how it was, and the one thing that would have made it better. About 60 seconds, no app.
Quick phone check
They confirm their mobile with a text code. That keeps it to real people, and it's how we can send a thank-you or let them know you fixed something. You never see their number.
Done and dusted
They can do it at the table or later that day. Either way, there's nothing to follow up and nothing awkward at the counter.
Why it's safe to be honest
A random delay
Every comment is held and released to you at a random time, hours after it was written. Releases are spread out, never batched, so the timing gives nothing away.
No table, no name
You see what was said, not who said it or where they sat. If a diner wants you to know it was them, they can tick a box and add a first name. It's off by default and we never nudge.
Quiet days are covered
On slow days we hold comments a little longer and release them with the next lot, so a single comment can't be pinned on your only customer at 3pm.
The thank-you (optional)
You choose it
A free pastry, $4 off food, or nothing at all. It's framed as a thank-you from your cafe, not payment, and it's only good on a later visit, so it brings people back.
Redeemed with a PIN
The diner taps 'Use my reward' and hands their phone over. Staff type your 4 digit cafe PIN and it's marked used. Ring it up in your POS like any other comp.
Nothing to give it away
Staff only see the reward, never what the diner said. One thank-you per person per cafe each month keeps it fair.
What you get
AI themesComing in the beta
Every comment is read and grouped into themes like 'slow weekend service' or 'portion size', with counts and trends week to week. Low-effort and off-topic entries are filtered out.
You said, we didComing in the beta
Mark a theme as fixed, add a short note if you like, and the diners who raised it get a text. You see how many will hear about it, never who.
Heads up on the serious stuffComing in the beta
Anything about food safety, allergies or hygiene comes through sooner, with an alert, so you can deal with it fast.
Fair questions
- I already have a loyalty card.
- No worries. BetterBite™ collects feedback, not purchases, so it sits happily alongside your stamp card.
- Doesn't my POS already ask for feedback?
- Receipt surveys only reach people who take a digital receipt. A card on the table reaches everyone, cash payers included, and the AI tells you what it all means.
- What if I hear things I don't want to?
- You'd hear them either way, just later and in public. This way it comes to you privately, while it's still easy to fix.
- I don't have time for this.
- That's the point of the themes. Two minutes a week, tops.
- Will it annoy my customers?
- It's always optional, takes about a minute, and never gets in the way of ordering or paying.
- Does it push people to post on Google?
- No. There are no Google prompts anywhere in BetterBite™. Feedback stays between your diners and you.
- Can I take my data with me?
- Yes. Ask and we'll send you your feedback and reward history.
Free for our first Wellington cafes.
We're looking for a handful of independent cafes to try BetterBite™ and help us shape it. No contract, no card, no catch. We'll even drop off the table cards.
